DreamCatchers Equine Rescue is a group of dedicated individuals who have come together in their love of horses to do what we can to preserve the dignity of these magnificent beings.
It is our belief that every horse has a special human and it just takes time and opportunity for them to find each other.
During these hard economic times, our horse friends are ever more at risk of being abused, neglected, starved, abandoned or sold to the kill buyers at auction. Help us save and protect these wonderful animals until they find their permanent loving homes with their very special humans.
Your Donation is Tax Deductible!!
IT IS OUR MISSION to provide rescue, rehabilitation and sanctuary to equines of any breed, size, age, gender, physical and emotional ability. We will help them regain health and peace of mind while they wait for their special human to find them, and when it happens that they do find their human, we will help them move forward to their new forever homes while keeping our promise to them to always be there if they need us.
Julie DeMuesy - my love for horses began at a very early age. My mother loved to tell me about the imaginary herd I had when I was no more than 2 yrs old...she said I would list their names and colors, they lived in our basement and went out in our back yard daily with me.
My siblings and I would spend a week or two each summer at the Bar L Ranch in Guthrie Center, Iowa where we learned how to care for horses and ride them.
I was 8 years old when my parents divorced. That is when I got my first horse...Sunny, a beautiful Palomino Mare. We spent two awesome years together before she suddenly died of a twisted intestine in January 1970. I next found Samson, a beautiful bay 1/2 arab gelding who at 2 yrs old was barely green broke. He was my first real experience with a true soul mate...we just got each other. Sam and I were together until 1979 when I met and married my first husband...should have kept the horse! It was was nearly 20 years later that I reentered the horse world after raising my two sons and finding the man of my dreams...only my second true soul mate, Paul, who bought me a horse...We named her Raven.
Paul DeMuesy - Paul will be the first to admit that he does not share Julie's passion for horses. Ask him why he is involved in this adventure, he will tell you simply that HE LOVES HIS WIFE. Paul worked 2 full time jobs for much of the last 8 years to help provide the financial support needed to get this project underway. Lately he has turned his time and attention to improvements at the ranch...new pens, new loafing sheds, cleaning and organizing the place...you will be amazed at the changes...

Paul is the one reason we were able to feed these horses through this last winter...he searched high and low for the best prices on hay making it possible for us to maximize our feed budget and keep the entire herd fat and healthy.
His next goal is to grow, cut and bale enough of our own hay this summer so that we don't have to buy much from other sources...there is no doubt that our hay barn will be filled to the rafters by first snow!
Lisa and Bill Papi - Lisa and Bill met Julie in 2005 when Lisa answered an ad for a little horse named Piggy at that time...the ad said that "Piggy" (also known as Amir Sharaf, an egyptian arab of spectacular bloodlines) was looking for his special human...It was love at first site for both of them. Lisa and Julie became fast friends and Lisa and her husband Bill, shown above with Paul later adopted another horse from Julie named Pawnee.
Lisa and Bill volunteered much of their time to Friends of Horses, a rescue in Littleton, CO for most of 2005 thru 2007. They adopted Coco and Talia and then their were 4. They purchased their own little 10 acre slice of heaven in Elizabeth, CO and moved the entire herd there in 2007 and then added BJ and Hope (now known as Ginger) who were adopted from DreamCatchers in 2008.
Lisa and Bill have always come to the aid of the horses at Julie's request whenever she needed them...and when 35 Horses, nearly starved to death in Jefferson, CO needed to be rescued, Bill was right there, helping round them up, load them and drive them to the ranch.
Lisa and Bill organized volunteers and donors to help care for this herd, provide the extra feed needed to take on the care and rehab of 35 emaciated horses and bring them back to life and health.
Lisa is Julie's right hand person and co-chairs the Board of Directors. She takes on tasks like organizing fund raisers, soliciting grants, bookkeeping, advertising, public relations and just about anything else that is needed. Lisa makes the trek from Elizabeth, CO to the ranch at least 2 times each month to help out and catch up on everything. Considering she has a husband, a full time job, 2 dogs, several cats and 6 horses to care for at home, her committment to DreamCatchers is nothing short of phenomonal.
Steve and Tress Keyer - They have found their calling. Steve and Tressa visited DreamCatchers in March 2008 during the adoption fair and fell totally in love with the thought of not just owning their own horses, but helping to save as many horses from bad circumstances as they could.
They quickly became a regular fixture at the ranch, Steve helping to maintain the equipment, using the tractor to skillfully move mountains of poo scooped from the pens, runs and stalls by his lovely bride Tressa, our volunteer coordinator. Steve uses his skills as a plumber to help update the facilities in houses, install a new hydrant in the barn and repair the entire septic system.
Steve and Tressa share the position of Vice President of DreamCatchers.
The horses are blessed to have these guys on their side.
Mr. Ed - What can we say about this wonderful man ...he came to DreamCatchers in January of 2008 after hearing about us on a news report. He has been our most loyal volunteer barely missing a weekend in the last 2 years. He shows up every Saturday morning by 7am to feed the horses and give Paul and Julie a chance to sleep in....it's his YOB and the old farts (elderly horses) are his best friends...but his mane bud is Chip whom he is teaching all sorts of tricks like bowing, and shaking hands... We gave Chip to Mr. Ed for his birthday/Christmas 2009.
