It's All About the Horses!

                   WISH LIST

WANT TO KNOW HOW YOU CAN HELP???

Unfortunately, because of current economic conditions, housing market, and skyrocketing prices, we are seeing more and more horses either surrendered or abandoned. Large numbers are being seized in terribly emaciated condition, and many older horses that no longer have a place in long time homes where financial concerns are forcing people to reduce or eliminate their herds.  We are all feeling the results of this ecomonic pinch, but the needs of these horses are great, and even a small donation of $50 can help feed healthy horse hay and grains for a month   It costs  approximately $160 per month to feed  one horse who needs a special diet.

Please help us help them!

If you would rather make a "none money" donation, below is a list of items needed on a regular basis.

GENERAL ITEMS:

Hay - Grass, Grass/Alfalfa Mix, Straight Alfalfa, Oat Hay are all acceptable.   We hope to be able to bale several hundred bales of our own hay this year, but will need somewhere in the neighborhood of 6,500 bales to support our herd through winter 2009/2010.(There is no such thing as too much hay!!!)

Building materials  lumber for fencing, building shelters, barbless wire, t-posts, fence panels for new pens, turn out areas, pasture cross fencing

Our Special Needs herd - retirees, toothless, other require  special feed mixtures. Each one gets between 16 and 25 pounds of this mash daily (dry weight)

Equine Senior  we feed approximately 75 pounds of senior to just our retirees daily, not to mention the miscellaneous horses that get a scoop daily.  At $15.50 per bag, this cost is enormous.  If each person who visited the ranch would just bring a bag of senior with them it would help tremendously.

Alfalfa Cubes and Grass Pellets , Complete or Horsechow 100-100 pounds of Alfalfa Cubes, 10 pounds of grass pellets and 10 pounds of Horsechow 100 daily, again, if visitors could just bring a bag of apiece of any one of these feeds, it would help support these very special horses. Tiger also needs MINERAL OIL with each meal so we go through a gallon ever 8.5 days.

EQUINE JUNIOR/YOUTH - We currently have  6 - yearlings that are fed Equine Junior daily in addition to their hay.

All Purpose feeds 10 - 12% protien, complete feeds.  Our horses that cannot be on pasture (stallions, nursing mares and weanlings as well as a few with other issues) benefit greatly by receiving daily supplements to their hay diet.

DEWORMERS - Ivermectin as a staple but various types of wormers are needed to rotate treatment of our herd.

MEDICAL SUPPLIES Vet Wrap, gauze pads,  cotton batting, furozone ointment, betadine, sterile sponges, basically any type of wound treatment will help as well as needles and syringes, pennicillin

Tack bridles, halters, lead ropes, lunge whips and lines, saddles (both english and western) We have a large number of horses that are in need of training.  Having proper tack will help us to accomplish this.

PROJECTS

  • Crops  -Till and replant acreage under the big Pivot - need seed and fertilizer, pesticide and herbicide.
  • Shelters  loafing sheds for shade and protection from the elements in each run, pen or pasture.

Veterinary costs to provide the medical care these horses need can easily run in to the thousands, especially with so many coming to us in dire need of immediate medical attention. We have established an account with our vet to enable people to donate funds specifically for veterinary care directly to our veterinarian's office, which will be applied to our account and help cover the costs of medical services for these horses.

If you would like to donate specifically for veterinary costs, please make checks payable to RURAL VETERINARY MEDICAL SERVICES, LLC and send it directly to our vet at:
